I haven't been to too many movies lately, at least not ones worth writing home about, however we went to see Cadillac Records on Monday. It's rated fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and I agree.
It's the slightly dramatized story of the beginning of Chess Records, so it's got sex, violence, race issues, questionable (at best) business practices (can you say payola?) and, of course, fantastic blues and rock and roll.
I'd almost like to see a differently edited version of this 1 3/4 hour film, it felt like there were gaps in the plot, things which could have been explored more deeply if there were a market for 3 or 4 hour movies.
Very well done and amazing casting. I was a bit worried when I heard who was cast as the various early Chess artists, but a good job all the way around - extra kudos to Adrian Brody as Leonard Chess and Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters.
I wanted to go home and dig through Curt's albums for any and everything with a Chess label and listen to them all night long.

Where have the movies gone?
There have been so many movies I haven't been to this summer. I have been going to the free shows at the Gallivan Center on Monday nights, and that's fun. The crowd is actually well behaved most of the time.
Mostly I've let school, love and baseball interfere with my movie going. At least I have my priorities straight.

"Iron Man" and "Sex in the City"
There's a combination for you, but I haven't been to a lot of movies lately. It's a school night so I'll just comment not actually review.
I loved "Iron Man". Not great, but more fun than your average superhero extravaganza. Robert Downey Jr with his shirt off was just icing on a tasty cake. And you must, must stay for the last scene - the one after the credits. If you didn't go see the movie again.
"Sex in the City" was fun, but as so many reviewers have said, it feels like three or four good episodes strung together. Who cares? I would have liked it more if I'd see it with a group, but enjoyed it all the same, even if I was the only one in the uncrowded Wednesday night theater who was laughing out loud most of the time. It made me cry, it made me laugh, what more could I want? Actually, a whole lot more of a cinematic experience. But I still liked it.

Another blog for me to neglect
Hi,
If I ever start going to movies on a regular basis again I plan to post here, even if I don't I'll try to keep up with the ones I've seen. For now you can see my movie posts at Beck's Day.
I'll try to get a few of my older movie, especially Sundance, posts in here, but school work must come first.
